How Often Should You Book a Haircut? A Stamford Stylist's Take

Short, long, colored, or curly. The right interval depends on your length and what your ends are doing.

There is no universal answer, but there is a useful one. The interval between haircuts should match how fast your ends break down, not how fast your hair grows.

Short hair shows growth first. A pixie or a sharp bob loses its shape within four to six weeks. If you wear it short, book every five weeks and your cut will always look intentional.

Medium and long hair can stretch to eight to twelve weeks. The goal there is not shape, it is integrity. Once ends split, they split upward. A dusting trim twice as often beats a big chop once a year.

Colored hair needs a tighter schedule, especially lightened hair. Bleached ends are more porous and break faster. Pair your color appointment with a trim and you will keep the length you want.

Curly hair is the exception that proves the rule. Curls hide split ends better than straight hair, so you can often go twelve weeks. But when the bottom of the curl starts to look stringy instead of defined, that is your sign.

If you cannot remember your last cut, it has been too long. Call ahead, book the consultation, and let the stylist tell you what they see. A fresh set of eyes on your ends is worth more than any rule of thumb.
